MY STORY

My name is Denae Konynenbelt and I have been involved in music since the age of three in my hometown of Lethbridge, AB. In my teens, I completed Royal Conservatory of Music exams in piano, theory, and history up to Grade 9 before attending the University of Lethbridge. I graduated with a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance (2016) and decided to continue my musical education at the University of Toronto with a Master of Arts in Musicology (2018). As of 2021, I design and write elementary and middle school music resources for an internationally used music curriculum.

I have taught privately in Alberta and Ontario throughout the years and have worked with students of all skill levels ranging in age from prekindergarten to adult. My approach to teaching is that students should enjoy the music they learn to grow as successful and confident musicians. I teach lessons designed after the needs and interests of the individual students. With this comprehensive style, I aim to provide students with the tools to perform, understand, and create music that is meaningful to them.

I have taught using pop and rock songs, show-tunes, soundtrack music, and traditional classical repertoire. Many of my students have chosen to study the Royal Conservatory of Music program, completing exams in piano, theory, and history. I keep my lessons exciting and engaging while giving students a solid musical foundation. I look forward to growing my studio and foster the love of music in my students!
